After reading some scary stories on http://www.klrworld.com/forums about the linkages not being greased and/or the poor state of them coming straight out of the factory, I thought it wise to double check all the bolts. The bolts are extremely tight so be careful undoing them if you do not have good quality sockets. The main bolts need to be tightened back up to 98nm.
This is the state of my 2010 KLR which is 4 weeks old and only has 1080km on the clock! I strongly recommend that anyone with a KLR check their linkages, clean the bolts up and reassemble with good quality water proof grease.

Hi Stuart.
I just stumbled across your site tonight. Love your work mate! I’ve got a 2009 KLR 650 that I’m half through setting for a trip theis August from Perth along the Gunbarrel Highway to Uluru, then north to do the Gibb River road on the way home. I’m hoping to set up a similar blog/website to share my ramblings.
Thanks for all the posts! You’ve given me a couple of ideas to chase up. So far I’ve fitted crash bars, a skid plate and an engine guard (from Happy Trails), a set of barkbuster ego handgaurds, a set of pivot pegs (great!) and I got the doohickey installed today (can notice the differnce already, she’s purring!). I’ve also got a “dash” with a 12v socket coming from the states to run a GPS.
I’m keen to get the SW Motech centre stand and Aluminium lugage rack adaptor so its good to see you recomend them. I’m also chasing down a more robust radiator guard.
Cheers Mike.
