Hi, curious how you went with the Ricor Intiminators? Am strongly considering a set, just not sure if it's worth the outlay for the real world gain.

have you fitted your yet?

Hi Stuart, good read on the KLR. I have just purchased a new one ( only 1000km up so far) with the intentions of "outback" travel. Very unfortunate re your Birdsville trip /accident. Some great country out there. ( I rode the Charleville to Birdsville road on a mountain bike with 22 ltres of water, 11 yrs ago )....google "Ian Robinson mountain bike" & learnt a lot in the process.

I actually meet several travelers on the road last August trying to get to the Birdsville races when I rode frm Brisbane to Rubyvale ( 1100km) on my MTB.

I have some requirements re extra fuel & water & am working on custom racks to suit. I have learnt frm the pushbikes to travel as light as possible.

Your comments on lower linkages is interesting.. as are the fuel comsumption figures.

Tks for the good contrustive info...... Ian R

Hi, enjoyed reading about your adventure. This August I have decided to do a trip on my 2010 KLR650 from Shepparton to Broken Hill, Bourke then up to Gympie for the Gympie Muster. Then across to Birdsville for the Birdsville Races. Then find my way home. 6500km in 20 days which includes 4 days at Gympie and 2 days at Birdsville. At this stage I will be making the trip alone. If you have any contacts of people who may be thinking of doing a similar trip I would be only too happy to make contact. Any advice u could offer would be appreciated too.
Cheers Chris ph 0428 101343 rugged.aussie@hotmail.com

Hi Stuart. I was wondering if we could meet if your bike is back from Queensland, I want to put Panniers on my bike but I am very confused with so many to choose from and would like to see them on your bike. It appears that there are a number of KLR's in the Canberra Region, we should start something and get a day trip organised and see who turns up. I dont know how we communicate place, date and time but simply reply and we can work it out.
Regards Brian.

Stuart I just read you blog again after getting back from my own trip. I was so shocked to see your mates crash, I just hope he's recovering ok. Don't give up on the trip though!

I had similar fuel ecconomy issues on my trip. If I stuck to <100km/hr I would get anywhere between 320-350km out of a tank. Go any faster or throw in a head wind and I was down to 200-240km. The bike itself went really well though. I came off seven times on the Gunbarrel and bent the hell out of the crash bars but the KLR just kept on going. 8000km in four weeks and no dramas (except loosing the odd sub-frame bolt).

You also inspired me to throw together a blog about the trip. Check out www.mlcoab.blogspot.com if your keen.

Cheers Mike.

Hi Daniel

The only club that I am aware of in Canberra is the DSMRA (http://www.dsmra.asn.au/) who do both normal trail rides and big bore rides for bikes like the KLR650.

However I also follow the KLR650.net website (http://www.klr650.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=33). Apart from being a good source of information, they also run rides around our area often.

Having said all that, I am more then happy to go riding with others or have them along with me whenever I go anywhere - more the merrier.
I will drop you an email, and with Brian we should go have a beer.

Cheers
Stuart

Thanks for your comments. We are both back in Canberra, how ever the bikes and gear is still in QLD.
I would be more then happy to catch up for a beer anytime.

Hi
I do not believe what I have just read and seen!!!. It was so great to here that your mate is ok; things could have been very different so quickly.

I have been following your site since February this year as I started to look at what bike to purchase back then. Yes I settled on a KLR 650 2010 model and yes from Canberra Motorcycle Centre at Fyshwick as I live in Canberra (Chisholm).

I should have left comments on your site prior to today but you just get busy and don’t get time?, I have since March done plenty of Mods and put many accessories on my bike.

When I first read that you were planning a trip to the Birdsville Races travelling by our great bikes I was going to email you to see if you had room for one my Black KLR but I had just got back from overseas (Tuesday 24th Aug) and did not have enough time to plan and pack. When you get back to Canberra maybe we can get together for a beer and talk KLR’s. Hope your mate travels home from Queensland safe and well.

Be careful.
Regards Brian
